A group of children I teach on my volunteering journey in Abono, Kumasi. Harmless children.

Love surrounds us every day of our lives. Love is the honeysuckle, the rising sun, the buzz of hummingbirds. It is the laughter of children, the tender whispers of lovers, the compassion that connects us and makes us human.

Tonight facebook gave me a reminder of what I wrote about 2 years ago. I think its still relevant today as most of us are too afraid to share love or think love will find us.
We go the our churches everyday, we practice religion at it peak but my question is do we practice and show love to those who really need LOVE? On our way to our churches and other place of worship we see people who beg for alms, we see children and others who need our old clothes yet we bypass them because we don’t want to get dirty before we go to church. During my recent years of volunteering and being able to understand people and their needs, I have redefined my love not to be shared among my family and friends but also with people who need my smiles and hug. Dear, love, is not defined the way we define love now. Now there is no LOVE from parents to children because our work have won the place of love. I have always prayed to show my wife and children love cos they’re the ones that need them. Love among fellows are no more at our work places, schools and even our churches: work colleagues are afraid to show love to other because those who take lust for love will make them feel they’ve an ulterior motives, my schooling systems don’t even allow student to express themselves. Now its very difficult to show love to a fellow person of same gender unless you’re family members. Is love only for those we know and love? Where have love gone to? So if we say we love someone, why can we share that love with others?

Love encompasses compassion, determination, tolerance, endurance, support, faith, love is when your partner’s (kids, friends, neighbours, etc,.) needs come before yours, love is when you want nothing more than for your partner to be truly happy, no matter what it takes.

One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life, that word is LOVE. Love has an essence that resists defining in any single way, love can make you sacrifice for what will be better in the end. Love is when they are the last thing you think about before you go to bed, and the first thing you think of when you wake up. The world will be a better place if we all show love to each other regardless the race, age, sex or sexuality. Let show LOVE now. Randomly tell someone you are with now how much you love them. Love should be a VERB than a noun.

  1. This piece is probing. Especially in this day and age of abundance, wealth, progress…..but equally selfishness and greed. Keep it up.
